Michael was diagnosed with GBS nine and a half years ago as he was getting ready to complete his 30th full marathon. Instead of running, he stumbled into his doctor’s office and was told to go straight to the hospital. At that moment, Michael didn’t realize the events that would unfold in the 135 days he spent in the hospital. As the paralysis came on very quickly, the doctors feared he would eventually stop breathing. Michael was happy to prove them wrong…
On November 5, 2023, he completed the New York City Marathon, which was his 7th marathon since being diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome (the 40th marathon in total).
“It takes me twice as long as it used to, but that just means I have twice as much fun running now!”
-Michael Ring, GBS Patient
